Greetings from
Junior Troop 8252

Who We Are and What We Do

Our troop has newly bridged to Juniors. We represent several different schools, and we live in north San Diego (Rancho Peñasquitos). We have 15 girls in our troop and we love singing songs, playing games, craft projects, badges, and learning about Girl Scouting.

We will celebrate bridging from Brownies to Juniors with a special "Bridging Celebration Trip" in October to the Movieland Wax Museum and Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament.

We also plan to participate in a Girl Scout tree planting service project to honor the victims of the World Trade Center.

For Thinking Day this year we will be learning about New Zealand, called Aotearoa “the land of the long white cloud” by the native Maori people. Did you know that there are more sheep in New Zealand than there are people? We’ll learn about Maori language and culture, sample a native recipe, read The Legend of How the Kiwi Lost His Wings, make our own poi balls and play tititora, the Maori stick game.

Our Current Badge Work:

Looking Your Best -- We did the "Circle of Friends" compliment activity and a "color party" to learn which color "season" brings out our best features. Next, an Avon Beauty Advisor will teach us best skin care routines and how to "accessorize" with jewelry and scarves. We also anticipate a visit from a local party planner to put on a "glamour party" complete with new hairstyles and glamour party clothes.

World Neighbors -- We learned about the varied ethnic groups represented in our own community when we attended the Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival. We will continue working on this badge in conjunction with Thinking Day and learn about the heritage, culture, food and dance of the Maoris.

Aloha to our sister scout Rachel C. in Hawaii.

We selected the Hawaiian lei for our troop crest because it represents a circle of friendship AND keeps Rachel C. a part of that circle. Learn more about troop crests and what they mean.
